I graduated from Istanbul University, Department of Psychology in 2009 and also minored in International Relations at the Faculty of Political Sciences. Subsequently, I completed my master's and doctoral studies in Health-Focused Clinical Psychology Program at Istanbul University, Department of Psychology. My master's thesis in 2012 focused on the subject of "The Evaluation of Psychopathology, Body Dissatisfaction, Treatment Motivation, and Eating Characteristics in Obesity Surgery (Bariatric) Candidates and Non-Candidates". Also, I completed my doctoral thesis in 2020 and worked on the topic "The Prevalence of Eating Disorders in University Students and Psychosociocultural Predictors: Istanbul Example".
Throughout my master's and doctoral education, I received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as various individual and group psychotherapies in the field of clinical psychology. I also conducted supervision-supported therapies. Furthermore, I completed the intensive program of Dialectical Behavior Therapy Training organized by "The Linehan Institute". Currently, I am undergoing training in the Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner Program.
I have been actively involved in research related to the causes and effects of eating disorders, factors influencing body image perception, the connection between obesity and mental well-being, and the emotional journey of patients on the path to bariatric surgery. I have presented these studies at various national and international conferences. Additionally, I currently engage in individual and group psychotherapy with individuals struggling with weight-related issues and eating disorders.
My initial exposure to the psychological aspects of obesity was through the Obesity Group Psychotherapy study conducted at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. Later, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Başak Yücel at Istanbul University, I conducted psychological assessments of candidates preparing for obesity surgery. This experience highlighted the crucial role of psychological support in ensuring treatment compliance, particularly in the postoperative phase.
I firmly believe that specialized psychological evaluation and support are pivotal for bariatric surgery patients in facilitating their adjustment to the changes in their lives and bodies after the operation. It aids in breaking old habits and embracing a new lifestyle. For this reason, I am honored to be a part of the Türkçapar Bariatrics team, where I can assist you in pursuing a healthier path, both physically and spiritually, during your pre- and post-operative period."
